About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also acclaimed studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. Their name is derived from the Latin word that means "all inclusive," the group was determined to explore all styles of music.
The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was a failure in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two songs that were hits with the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household name throughout the world.
After a gap of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. The album is different from the ballads that were featured on previous albums, and features some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording process for the fifth album The group loses its manager and is faced with financial problems. They decide to record a new album and change their name to an alternative producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as lead singer. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman and gives the band much-needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999 and goes on a huge tour around the world. After several weeks in Europe The band then travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa on a recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
